Favourite Jesu quotes

At the XLRI community on Orkut some acerbic Jesu quotes are being shared:

Jesu (to a hapless guy) : "You are not even a joker. You are a joker's sidekick. "

this one i heard from a super senior - " This is such a silly question that the biggest idiot of this class could answer it(pause)....ok J...... answer this"

one person escaped Jesu's acerbic remarks after the interview practice.
At the end of the session, jesu asks "any clarification".
The guy thinking that the reason he escaped acerbic remarks was his wonderful intervewing performance sopke up " Sir if it is apparent that interviewee doesnt seem to know something, should the interviewer push further to show him up or just let it be there"
Jesu at his best" you stupid and foolish joker, you do not know how to speak and you think you can show someone up, go see your face before you speak up".

" Give feedback to everyone and not those only who you love, like or belong to your region".

"This person praises you because of reasons other than what you have performed!!!"

"your mother went blind the day you were born, she will of course say that you look smart in this bullshit suit that you people wear and think that I am looking smart"

Some gems from the 2001 batch

- (To S_____ who started describing his family background when asked "tell me something about yourself" in a mock interview) "Here, take five rupees. Please go buy some chana for your little sister. Nice sob story, but it won't get you a job".

- (After a 5 minute staring match, to A______ who was getting distracted by a frog that entered the class)
"You are despicable. You are beneath human consumption. If you don't like the idea of coming here to study, at least let that poor boy next to you pay some attention"

- (After dismissing the way "young people" are wasting their time "running around the trees") "Well, if it keeps you warm and happy, like it keeps rabbits happy, what can I say"

But the all time classic - at the seven course dinner at the end of the term, when Fr. J was insisting on teaching all the girls how to wield a fork and knife even if they clearly already knew (whilst ignoring all the guys who didn't)
F: Father, how do you eat mutter?
Fr. J: Eh?
F: Mutter
Fr. J: Mutton? The same way you eat anything else my boy!
F: No, no, father (pointing at the peas on his plate)
Fr J: Oh you fool, you mean PEAS!

XL reaches the HIGHEST PEAK - Mt. Everest

XLNC(XLri Nature Club) has planned a trek to the Everest base camp for a group 20 students.

XLRI Leadership Expedition (XLE)

The Concept
The XLRI Leadership Expedition involves taking students to a remote location where they are exposed to hardships and adverse conditions through challenging adventure activities. The Expedition necessarily involves the students doing groundwork for a relevant social / environmental cause with the help of some reputed organization working in that field. This work is done pre-expedition and also during the expedition. The place where the expedition goes and the mission of the expedition will be unique every year. For example XLE2006 will go to Mount Everest Base Camp with the mission of spreading AIDS awareness. XLE2007 could be a scuba diving expedition to Andaman & Nicobar with the mission of conserving marine eco systems.

The Objective
The objective of the XLRI Leadership Expedition is to aid in developing leadership traits amongst the participants. The Expedition takes up Leadership aimed at the Individual level as well as at the society. At the individual level, the expedition aims to develop the following

Strength of character (by exposing the participants to extreme hardships)
Ability of the individual to plan and execute under uncertain environment, taking decisions which affect the team (Through rotational leadership and experience sharing)
Motivate others at during crisis (by linking individual success to the team’s success)
The other aspect of Leadership is to influence the society. In order to address this, all XLRI Leadership Expedition will take up a cause where students of XLRI will contribute towards a relevant social/ environmental issue

Help Required - Manjunath Shanmugam

Hi Everyone,

Most of you must be familiar with the name Manjunath Shanmugam. He was the bright young lad from IIML - 2003 batch who was killed for doing his job honestly & trying to clean up the system. I am sure that when you read the stories in the newspapers last November you would have reacted to them in some way or the other. You might have admired his honesty, felt sorry for the loss of an innocent young life, despaired over the situation in India which allows such things to happen or a million other possibilities.

But did you do something about it ?

Didn't you feel a tiny twinge, a prick of the conscience ?
"What can I do to change the system ?"

Anjali Mullatti - IIML class of '93 is one of those who decided to do something concrete about it. I have pasted her mail below, so you can read in her words, what they are trying to do. It is an onerous task that she has undertaken, the least we can do is help in whichever way that we can. It need not be just financial but also through your network of contacts.

Karthik Karunakaran of the XL 93 batch knows Anjali as a batchmate (albeit a different college) and a friend. He will vouch for her genuineness. If any of you would like to verify any details with him before making a contribution, Karthik can be contacted at

Now that someone HAS taken the initiative, let's do what we can to help.

Hi - Here is an appeal for a good cause. Anjali, who is spearheading this, is a friend of mine -KK
-------------------------

All,

Feb 23rd is the birthday of Manjunath Shanmugam - an IIM L (2003) alumnus who lost his life for his fight against corruption. He died on November 19th, 2005.

As a Sales Manager with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), Manju turned down bribes and ignored threats, to do his job – check rampant adulteration of petrol. He was shot dead in Lakhimpur Kheri by a petrol pump owner and his gang.

To most of us, though we never met him, Manju is extremely familiar and is, in part, within every one of us. This is one cause we CANNOT turn away from. We have no excuse. We must ensure that his death does not go in vain.

The Manjunath Shanmugam Trust is now a legal entity with 2 trustees - Anjali Mullatti (IIML '93) and H. Jaishankar (IIMB '91).

The immediate and urgent focus of the trust is to take up the legal battle and ensure quick justice for the murder case. The murderers must not go free.

The broader objectives of the trust are

a . To establish and maintain an award for individuals/institutions working to uphold the values of truth and honesty in the face of danger to themselves.
b. To provide aid to individuals fighting a legal battle to uphold the values of truth, honesty or justice in the Indian corporate, government or public matters.

For updates on what we have done to date and our next steps, please visit the trust website:
www.manjunathshanmugamtrust.org

How can you help?
Firstly – funds are needed to pay lawyers' fees, case costs, build an award corpus.. this will be a long and tedious battle. Please donate just one day's salary for the cause.
Our first donors: Rs. 44,500 ($ 1000) from Sanjay Khanduri, Wharton Class of 2006, and Rs. 30,000 from Akhil Krishna, IIML 2003.

Secondly, if you can commit time and effort, please write in and be part of the team.

Thirdly, if you have close contacts in media, police, legal, judiciary who can help, please let us know.

It is heartwarming that so many people have already reacted immediately and generously – across the spectrum of media, legal, police and the IIM fraternity. Be part of that group.

How do you donate?
Write a cheque favouring 'The Manjunath Shanmugam Trust' , and courier it to:
2909/1, Raghavapriya, 3rd Main, V.V. Mohalla, Mysore 570 002, India

Write a cheque favouring 'The Manjunath Shanmugam Trust' , and deposit it in any HDFC bank drop box, with a deposit slip, account number 0651000091870.

Do an online money transfer , to the HDFC Bank a/c , from your ICICI /HDFC/Citibank a/c. Account number 0651000091870.

Currently FCRA regulations prohibit us from accepting foreign remittances - we're working on getting special permission. For now, please route all overseas donations via your regular Indian rupee accounts.

We have also applied for income tax exemption for donors under Section 80 (G).

Please contact me for any further clarifications - anjaliDELETETHIS@corporateacademy.com.

Faculty Fan Clubs on Orkut

Orkut hosts a couple of Fan Clubs for some Favourite XL Prof's.

Don't be mistaken, it isn't an Orkut initiative, but that of students. A case of Desperate ACP ? I don't think so.

Check out the fan clubs for Professor Madhukar Shukla, Professor R K Premarajan and Professor Venkat Krishnan.

Is it co-incidence that they all teach OB ?????

The XL Community is also alive and kicking on Orkut.

Thanks to GG for bringing this to Our attention.
