xlchennai : Trying for another cricket match

Dear guys,

We have let pass 2008 without a single cricket match being played and so want to start off 2009 on a positive note.

Subject to ground availability, we are trying to fix up a match with either IIM-A or IIM-C on Jan 26th, 2009 or the First Sunday in Feb 2009.

Do write to me your interest in signing...who knows some of the IPL franchisees may be scouting for fresh faces considering we were the 1st to launch the T-20 cricket matches way back in 2006 and 2007. This is your chance to make it big. So stretch out and get into shape in case you are out of touch with physical fitness for some time.

Also a belated Happy new Year to all u folks and families for 2009.

Cheers,
Murali (Class of 84)

IIM - XLRI Alumni Meet on the 30th of May (KUWAIT)

Dear All,
it is indeed a great achievement for all of us to identify around 62 of us in this small but rich country:)
Wanted to share with you couple of action points where we would definitely require your suggestions.

1. Location - When we were planning the event a week back we had never expected to reach the numbers that have now. We are expecting a gathering of close to 120 people, which includes all of us along with our families, guests from the Kuwait Corporate Houses, Officials from the Indian Embassy, our sponsors (I am not sure as to how many we are going to have now), and representatives from the media. We had initially booked the Le Meridean (we had been able to negotiated a rate of 7 kd per person) but now it seems that we might not be able to accomodate ourselves into it. The other options that we are considering are Safir International (they are asking for around 10 KD per person) and Hotel Ritz in Salmiya (they are also asking for around 7 kd per person). Please let us know of your views with this.

2. Sponsorship -
We are trying our best to have our meet sponsored and for the purpose, we have requested our company (Alshaya), and would also like to request all of you kindly help us with this in our respective companies or with those who you feel can help us with this event. I have attached along with this email a proposal that we, at Alshaya, have created and have shared it with our top management for taking a decision.

3. Inviting the Indian Ambassador
- Ours is not a registered organisation and hence the protocol restricts his visit. There are now 2 options available to us:
a. Have our Association registered before the meet and invite him. This would entail nominating some office bearers for the registration purpose and later having democratic process of electing the office bearers.
b. Going ahead without inviting the Ambassador but inviting some other important officials from the Indian Embassy.

4. Inviting other Dignitaries -
We would like your views and help of having some more dignitaries from the Kuwait Corporate Houses being invited for the meet.

5. Agenda -
Below is the agenda that we have planned for the meet and would like to have your views on it.

Hopefully again another CRICKET MATCH

Dear Folks,

We guys sure missed a golden opportunity to patent/copyright or whatever else possible to protect our concept rights over the 20-20 cricket format...long before it became a world wide craze we guys had already made it customary to only play 20-20 matches....but then as they say we could have had a piece of history !!!!

Now getting onto the actual subject of this email...we are cos of PUBLIC DEMAND trying to schedule our annual round of cricket matches for Feb 10th and FEb 17th both Sundays. I have got in touch with JK of IIM-c to check for ground availabilty and player availability esp fro IIM-A and IIM- others. So guys and gals do try and stay in town and check up yr emails for more news. Also prospective players and those interested do email me/Tommy/Shanta yr names, email id and contact numbers so that we update our cricketers' database.

It takes eleven to get even

We beat the daylights out of IIM-C this time around....they were only 9 this time around and we had to loan them 2 players to make their eleven. We let them bat 1st to set a total... they set a tgt of 158 to get in 25 overs. We reached the same in about 20 overs for the loss of only 3 wkts... hero of the match being Rohan (tommy's son) who belted them for 50+ plus runs and had to be recalled so that others wud get a turn to bat. Nimit turned in an excellent all round effort with 2-3 wkts in a deadly controlled spell and got 43 runs in an opening century stand with Rohan when we batted. IIM-C now stands for IIM- Confused. On the whole a very good team effort by all our guys. The match got off to sensational low down 1st slip catch by Tommy off Nimit's bowling and thereafter wkts fell regularly. For the record JK of IIM-C played a sterling unbeaten innings to hold up the IIM-C efforts, but it was in vain as Hurricane-Rohan blew in from the Bay of Bengal.

Shall let you know when the so called awards evening and gala get together is held as a sequel to this cricket.

Ciao
