XLRI degree recognition in UK : Good news

This good news comes from Nishat (PMIR95)

The "point-based calculator" for self assessment on the UK Border Agency website now awards 35 points for a qualification from XLRI. This means NARIC has updated its database and registered the XL PGD as being equivalent to British taught Master's degree. This is great news as the new Immigration rules only allow applicants with either a Master's or Ph.D qualification to apply.

On a separate note, Bappaditya and Vijay, many thanks for your resp NARIC certifications that you provided. It did the trick - I used it to lodge an appeal with NARIC and stated that they did have both BM and PMIR PGDs on their database as being equivalent to a British taught Master's degree. I got a NARIC certification in this process at no further cost !!

So that's the long and short of it !

Cheers
Nishat (PMIR 95)

London Alumni Meet - Saturday 19 July @ the Exchange, Soho

All

Just to confirm our meet this Saturday. Are you all looking forward to it?!

My number is below but the bar should be easy enough to get to (see link to map below), so please don't leave yourself to the mercy of my skill in giving proper directions in London.

See you all there from 6.45PM onwards. If you expect to be very late please drop me an email with your ETA but I really recommend everyone gets there early-ish so we can chat a little before it starts to get busy. Also, if you are going to have a companion not accounted for earlier, just let me know.

Come to the reserved area at the back. There should be signs saying XLRI in Polish*.

Shariq

------------------------------
* I know this will confuse some people, so I should point out that this was a joke. The signs will simply say "XLRI". For those curious (for some absurd reason) about how to say XLRI in Polish, try DSPI (Donovan Stosunków Pracy Instytutu)

July 21 for next XL Europe meet - London

Dear all,

Further to the open invitation sent earlier on the summer XL Europe meet, the organising team (ahem!) is pleased to confirm/ propose the following. This is based on the feedback received from some of you...

Confirmations: including family etc we have 30 people expected for the get together - we need more to sign up so please revert soon!

Date: 21st July (Saturday) seems to be ok with most.

Venue:
Everybody wants a picnic. If it does not rain, we suggest Greenwich or Hyde Park. If it rains, we need a back-up venue. We are checking with Sandeep Kataria on his home front. The plan is to check the forecast a few days in advance and confirm venue.

Food & Drinks:
Option 1- Get food delivered by a caterer to someone's house & we take it to the park.
Option 2- Each one gets something. Would need some coordination to ensure we don't end up with only coke & chips :)

(we will take a decision once numbers are fixed)

Costings
Ganesh Iyer is working on some costings - we will revert with enough time for you to dig up those deep pockets!

Games at park
Of course especially if it is the park option! We will contact with those of you who volunteered.

New RSVPs
Vijay Jamwal who was coordinating RSVPs is on leave till July 9 - so am I. So if you dont get a revert from us you will know why.

Thanks all and take care. As ever, please do revert with suggestions/ feedback/ grax..

Cheers!
reena

March 29 meet at london

Hi folks!!
jThanks a ton, Reena for hosting the evening - and to all who could make it (in spite of the change in date). It was great fun to meet people after so many years... and thankfully, finding that they are still the same :)
Great pix, Arun!... like a true photographer you captured the moments from behind the scene.... folks! if you are interested in photography - and if I may coin the term "relevant phhotography" - please do visit:
he has a phenomenal portfolio...

(actually - thoda sa, in management jargon, "ambush marketing" - if you are interested in photography, you can also visit: http://bestofmadhukar.blogspot.com/ :0)
It was a wonderful evening for me - hopefully also for those who came, too - and I returned back pretty energised even though I reached Oxford at 2am and 1C.
I have pasted the pix that I took from my camera below... please do have a look
Reena/ junta, I am enclosing the last update of XLers in UK/Europe I have (04)... thanks also, Reena, for agreeing to become the co-moderator of xlEurope (this groups was created by Jayanth of 00batch who is now in NUS Singapore, and yous truely who still holds the fort on the first floor above the Library Building at XL :0)... we need some local junta across the batches to manage the group and bring in people... any other help is most welcome
hope we continue to have similar meets
PLEASE BOOK YOUR DATES:
Annual Alumni Homecoming '07
Nov 17-18, 2007 (3rd weekend of Nov... that's fixed for years to come)
Venue: XLRI Jamshedpur
Any all alumni are welcome... the formal (or otherwise;0) announcement will reach you in due course... but do book your travel
Likely agenda would be like this:
ciao
madhukar

Madhukar/ Sir - lovely to see you this side of town and hear the updates from XL. thank you! (hope some of the discussions of the eve work out...)

Thank you all who made it...it was great catching up. (the amount of booze left will fuel another meet i am sure!)

Please find attached pics to view, share, etc.(Enjoy...!)

Sorry to those who could not make it...we missed you.

...and yes lets plan another one...

Some of you suggested we plan a get together every quarter and those who can make it will make it...we'll try that out and see if it works...

Next one in end June/ early July (we can use the left over stocks of daru for sure!)

any thoughts anybody...any volunteers for hosting...?

thanks all..lets continue to be in touch.

cheers! reena

March 30 XL meet

Dear all,

I am happy to share that we have 31 people confirmed for the XL Europe meet in London on this date. Its going to be an interesting mix of people ('81 batch to '03) with an even more interesting portfolio (industries, businesses and locations...)

So far the confirmed numbers seem to be just about fitting into my home (it may be a bit of a squeeze but given our background of graduating from a small campus with big minds and bigger hearts we should do okay so no worries!)

Now important items - food, drinks and funding

  • Food - I am speaking with a few caterers for catering arrangements (delivery at home) with a focus on finger buffet rather than dinner. Do you have any caterer suggestions or recommendations? That would help me so if you do know of any, let me have contact details as soon as possible.
  • Drinks - I shall get us some wine (white, red) and liquor (rum, whisky, vodka) with base liquids/ mixes. I shall buy them from Majestic which should sell on a 'return' basis. If you have any specific preferences can I suggest you bring your own please?
  • Funding - I shall pay at the moment and will let you know in advance how much is the per head cost. You can get me the cash or drop in a cheque when we meet on Mar 30.
Further, if anyone has any suggestions/ clarifications, please let me know. All inputs/ ideas most welcome.

cheers! reena

XL Meet on 30th March in UK???

Hello folks!
I am planning to be in UK end of March
those of you who have been, as some character in PG Wodehouse once put is "watching my career with considerable interest", would have noticed this change in field of interest:
in any case, I will be in UK, Oxford Univ to attend the Social Entrepreneurship Forum during 25-30th... the engagements are during 26th and 29th.
Was wondering if there is a chance for all of us - or as many of us as possible - to meet on the 30th - somewhere, some place??
ciao
madhukar
ps: dont tell me that I did not give you enough warning to plan you outbound travel;0))
