XLRI to monitor mid-day meal

Ranchi, May 15: The Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur, would evaluate the implementation of mid-day meal scheme in the state.

The decision was taken today during an important meeting chaired by state chief secretary A.K. Basu. HRD secretary J.B. Tubid, finance commissioner Raj Bala Verma and director (primary education) P.C. Mishra attended the meeting among others.

The method of evaluation of the scheme would be decided in near future during a meeting between XLRI authorities and state HRD department.

Monitoring of mid-day meal scheme would be given utmost importance. The onus will be on the block education and block programme officers, in case of any laxity, sources said.

The authorities also decided to construct kitchen shades in all the schools covered under mid-day meal scheme at the cost of Rs 60,000 each.

Mata Samitis, entrusted with the task of preparing food in schools, will also be imparted training on nutritious food. The members of Mata Samitis would be given remuneration based on daily minimum wages.

A proposal to introduce filters for safe drinking water in all the schools was discussed at length during the meeting.


People in the know, say that XLRI was not even consulted or their assistance requested before the government published this information.
