XLRI Duo to Open e-store: Brandtadka.com

From The Telegraph

XLRI boys to make shopping fun
- Brandtadka.com gets campus backing, to host top brands with wardrobe management & cash on delivery feature

Jamshedpur, May 20: Want an Olive green branded T-shirt? Log on and have it delivered at your doorstep. Two second-year students of XLRI School of Business and Human Resources are set to make men’s shopping easy and fun.

Branded apparels from stores in Jamshedpur and Calcutta will now find a place on brandtadka.com, part of XLRI’s first commercial venture in the city.

B. Prathik and Manoj Joshi, two business management students heading the e-commerce plan aim to bring popular brands on one platform, giving competition to single-branded stores.

“We want to make online shopping an experience. The concept came from our own shopping habits. Brand conscious people look out for their preferred colour and the perfect fit and we are going to give it to them,” promised Joshi, adding that seniors had inspired them by taking up similar projects as a part of social entrepreneurship, but this was pure business. The venture is being funded by the two students and a third-party.

The students feel what sets them apart from other online shopping websites is a tool called “wardrobe management”. The website will use this system to ensure that fitting of garments bought would not be an issue for the customer. The students did not wish to elaborate on this yet, as the website was still under construction.

Among the list of items to be made available on brandtadka.com were fabric, accessories like ties, cuff links, belts, caps and branded merchandise. Levi’s Signature and New Bombay Stores, based in Jamshedpur, have already signed up. A store from Calcutta is also on board. Zodiac, Lee, Wrangler, Polo, Arrow and Adidas will also have merchandise on display in the first phase.

The website will also provide style tips every day.

The duo plans to have more brands on board and also expand the delivery to cities other than Jamshedpur.

“We feel stores have space constraint issues. Here, a customer can log in, find his favourite items, surf through the entire range and place an order. The products will be delivered at their doorstep and one can opt for cash on delivery,” said Prathik.

The young entrepreneurs are getting full support from XLRI to start the venture. It has allowed them to use the XLRI address for registration purposes and has also given them office space on campus.

“We are trying to provide all possible help. We will try to link them with the finance houses if they have funding issues. We want to promote entrepreneurship,” said Prabal Kumar Sen, chairperson of the Entrepreneurship Development Cell, XLRI.

http://brandtadka.com/ is still under construction, but if you head over there and sign up for their newsletter, they promise you exclusive offers once the site is launched :)

Akshat Mullick (05) - Finalist at ET 'Power of Ideas'

From The Economic Times

. . . Akshat Mullick started a business in healthcare last August. When the Power of Ideas programme started, he sent in another idea, also on healthcare, which he had been thinking about for some time.

“There is tremendous opportunity in healthcare today. It is very under developed and fragmented,” reasons Mr Mullick. His idea revolves around wellness and healthcare outside hospitals. His existing business offers training in first aid and a number of other hygiene-related areas to schoolchildren, among other things.

At the group mentoring session, Mr Mullick says he got an insight into the evaluation parameters and how a start-up should approach investments. At the one-on-one session, he is hoping to talk to an investor with some experience in the healthcare business who can grill them and point out how to improve on the shortcomings. . . .

Hyderabad - Alumni Meet 2009

Hello,

Now that I'm back in Hyderabad (joining Deloitte Consulting), I feel nostalgic about the great time I had during summer internship last year. It was fun organizing the alumni meet under the able leadership of Prof Shukla and the constant guidance from Harinarayana S., Kumara Guru, Ranjeev Lahkar, Neti Srinivasan, S. Nandkumar, Kaushik Mitter, Siddhish Sriganesh, SV Nathan and all the XL seniors at Deloitte.

Its that time of the year again. We have summer interns of the 2010 batch in Hyderabad, it gives me great pleasure to introduce the organizing committee of Hyd Alumni Meet 2009 : Suvid Anand (who is also the Placecomm Secy),Archana Rao, Debayan Biswas, Siddharth Chatterjee and Hariharan R.

We had a meeting yesterday and hope to successfully organize the meet on 23rd May at Taj Krishna.

We would be grateful if you could help out with suggestions, tips, sponsorships, good deals for venue, etc so that we can plan out a enjoyable evening for all.

Organizations that sponsor the XLRI Alumni Meet get high impact visibility in front of Hyderabad's elite and can choose to sponsor the meet in the following ways:

1. Rs. 20000: Mention in all email communication to alumni and mention in media ads of the alumni meet.

2. Rs. 30000: All of the above & 1 Banner (dimensions 6 X 3) placed at venue. Pamphlets in all the gift packs.

3. Rs. 50000: All of the above & one extra Banner (dimensions 6 X 3) placed at venue. Access to the database collected at Venue.

A certain book titled "Land of My Childhood: Stories from South Asia" (Oxford University Press) has a dozen of stories.
At least three of them - I think - are by Indian authors
one is by Ruskin Bond
another is by Anita Desai
and the third
well, not prizes for guessing!!
by Anu Kumar (aka Anuradha Chakravarty of 94PMIR)
Congrats, Anu!

Mumbai - Annual Meet - 23 May 2009

Dear XLers,

The preparations for the Alumni Meet 2009 are underway. We have finalized tentatively the date and venue as follows:
Date: 23rd May, 2009
Venue: Mayfair Banquets, Worli
Time: 7:00pm onwards

At this stage, we are facing severe issues as regards sponsorship is concerned.

This being a period of recession, there are very few avenues to raise sponsorship and we have not received favourable responses from any of the avenues we have explored so far. After 3 weeks of efforts towards raising funds for the meet, we realize that this year is going to be a tougher nut to crack than we had earlier expected.

We request you to lend us your support towards this end, and help us in giving you the best Alumni Meet yet.

We seek your direction and support in this regard. Please feel free to contact any one of us for any queries / suggestions etc.
Thanks and Regards,
Gayathri Krishnan
